Ephraim W. Helton
Ephraim W. Helton is a partner with Helton, Walter & Associates Attorneys At Law. Eph has been practicing law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for the past 35 years, with extensive experience in personal injury, criminal, family law and domestic litigation.
During that time, he has achieved settlements totaling approximately $21,064,920.00 (over $21 million) in personal injury cases.
Eph has provided legal representation throughout Central and Southern Kentucky, along with successfully presenting arguments before the Commonwealth of Kentucky Court of Appeals and the Commonwealth of Kentucky Supreme Court. Additionally, Eph has served as legal counsel for the Anguilla Tennis Academy, where he has negotiated leases on behalf of the Academy involving "Crown Land" owned by the Queen of England.
In the past several years, Eph has litigated significant personal injury cases against Western Kentucky Gas Company involving an explosion of a residence, along with representing the estate of one of the passengers on Comair Flight 5191, which crashed in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 27, 2006. Throughout his legal career Eph has successfully represented a far reaching variety of clients in over 100 civil and criminal jury trials. Eph has obtained not guilty verdicts in trials involving Manslaughter, Second Degree; Rape, First Degree; Sexual Abuse, First Degree; Assault, First Degree; Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, First Degree; Trafficking in Marijuana; Burglary First Degree; Theft by Unlawful Taking; and DUI.
Respectful of his clients’ desire for cost control and effective risk management, Eph has also far-reaching experience in preventative lawyering, mediation and conflict resolution. He was selected to be included in the Top Attorneys of North America 2016 edition of The Who’s Who Top Professionals.
Matthew R. Walter
Matthew R. Walter is a partner at Helton, Walter & Associates Attorneys At Law, and he has practiced law in Central Kentucky for the past 13 years. Matt’s practice is focused on family law; criminal defense; probate/estate; real estate; personal injury; and civil litigation.
Matt is a graduate of Danville High School, Presbyterian College, and the University of Kentucky College of Law. In 2003-2004, Matt served as Staff Attorney for Honorable D. Bruce Petrie, Family Court Judge for the 50th Judicial Circuit. Matt has successfully argued cases in many Kentucky counties, and is skilled in the intricacies of appellate law.
As a Danville native, Matt represents Central Kentucky Federal Savings Bank, the Danville Country Club, and many other local entities and individuals. Matt, his wife Audrey, and their three children reside in Danville and are actively involved in numerous civic and charitable activities.
Stacy Coontz was with the Department of Public Advocacy for sixteen years. While there, she handled criminal defense cases through Central Kentucky, from juvenile cases to capital murder. Stacy served as trial counsel D.E. in a case of first impression at the Kentucky Court of Appeals-D.E. v. Commonwealth, 271 S.W.3rd 539, which held that a person must physically enter property to be convicted of criminal trespass.
Stacy is currently the Junction City representative on the Boyle County Human Rights Commission, and co-chairs the Shop with a Cop Program for Children.
Winfield M. Frankel is a Danville native with extensive ties to the region. He joined Helton, Walter & Associates Attorneys At Law as an associate in 2014. His practice is focused in family law, real estate, estate planning and administration, as well as personal injury and general civil litigation.
In 2010, Winfield clerked for Honorable Jeff L. Dotson, Chief District Court Judge for the 50th Judicial Circuit.
In addition to serving on numerous civic boards, Winfield is an active member of the Boyle/Mercer County Bar Association and is also member of the Kentucky Bar Association. In addition, he is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
